# What is Source?

> The difference between who sent the data and where the sale happened.

**Source** is where the sales data came from: the distributor or aggregator that reported it to your record company such as FUGA, The Orchard, or a direct feed from a service. **Store** is where the listening or buying actually happened, such as Spotify or Apple Music.

One source usually covers many stores. A distributor collects from every service your music is on and sends your record company a single file, so filtering by that source shows almost everything, while filtering by store narrows to one service.

The names are your record company's own. They name each source when they set up the file format it sends, so what you see reflects their arrangements rather than a fixed list.

Source is worth filtering on when your catalogue reaches your record company by more than one route, such as a back catalogue that comes through a different distributor from your recent releases. Otherwise Store is the more useful of the two.

Only **Store** has a tab. To rank sources rather than filter by them, there's no equivalent view.
