# Does a payment appear on my statement?

> Where a payout shows up once it's been made, and why your dashboard moves first.

Yes. A payment appears in the **Payments** figure of the period it was booked into, as a negative amount, and it reduces that period's closing balance.

That's the point of it: your closing balance is what you're still owed, so money already paid has to come off.

## Why your dashboard changes first

Your payable balance is a live figure, so it drops as soon as the payment is recorded. A statement is fixed once published, so the payment shows up on the next period your record company publishes.

Between those two moments your dashboard and your latest statement disagree, and both are right. The statement says what you were owed when the period closed; the dashboard says what you're owed now.

The **Payments** box on your dashboard totals everything paid to you across all periods, which is the figure to compare against your own records.

## In the ledger

The ledger view has a **Payments** column, filled in on your payee row. Payments belong to the payee rather than to a contract or an account, so the contract rows show a dash there.
