# Why is my royalty lower than the net sales in Analytics?

> The difference between what a track earned and what you're owed for it.

They measure different things. **Net Sales** in Analytics is what your record company received from the stores for those sales. **Royalty** is your share of it, worked out from the rates in your contract.

So a track with EUR 10,000 of net sales and a royalty of EUR 1,500 isn't missing EUR 8,500. The rest is the record company's side of the deal, out of which they fund everything the deal covers.

Several things can make your share smaller than the headline rate in your contract:

* **Your participation.** If you're credited with part of a track, your rate applies to your part of it.
* **The royalty base.** A rate applies to the base your deal names: net receipts, gross receipts, the dealer price (PPD), a retail price, or a fixed amount per unit. The base is often smaller than the net sales figure you see.
* **Deductions.** Your deal can subtract a deduction before the rate applies, either a percentage or a fixed amount.

Costs, advances and payments don't come into this comparison. They move your balance rather than your royalty, so they change what you're paid without changing either figure here.

Your contract is the only place these rates are written down, and it isn't in the portal. Ask your record company for a copy if you don't have one.
