# Adding new labels

## Overview

A label is a brand under which tracks and releases are organised in your catalogue. Labels help organize and filter your catalog, can be reused across your entire repertoire, and can be associated with tracks, releases, and contracts. Labels are not required, but we recommend using them to enable more advanced analysis.

Once a label has been added, it can be selected on any track or release that belongs to that label. The same label can be assigned to as many tracks and releases as needed.
